Moving around the System Access Mobile Network... and beyond!

The SA Mobile Network has several features that make it easier to move around a page you are reading or move between windows. We use what we call "quick keys" to allow you to jump from one part of a page to another part of the page immediately, rather than having to wait for the entire page to be read. These quick keys are always letters. In addition, these keys can be pressed while reading a page; you do not need to press control to silence speech before using these keys. The quick keys allow you to jump to information on the page such as lists, form controls, tables, headers, and buttons. What follows is a letter, followed by what piece of information it represents. Note that you can go back by tapping shift along with each letter, such as shift+h to move back a heading. Simply pressing H then would move you forward by a heading. When the system is reading a page, if you tap the following keys, here’s what will happen.

Setting Window Shortcuts

First of all, window shortcuts lets you quickly jump back to a window of your choosing. For example, pretend that you were looking for music online. While you were browsing for title information, you also wanted to jot down notes about songs. you could create a hot keyboard shortcut for the browser window, then open the notes application, and create a shortcut for that window as well. Now no matter how many windows you have open you will have quick access to those two windows. Important, these hotkeys are only usable for the current SA Mobile Network session. So, when you re-connect to the SA Mobile Network, you will need to redefine Window hotkeys as needed.

To define a hotkey for a window, perform the following:

  1. From within the window that you want to have quick access to, press alt+W. then, Define your shortcut key, for example, control+1.

  2. Tap enter. You will hear, "Shortcut defined".

Now, you can use your keyboard shortcut to quickly jump to the window, or windows of your choice.
