System Access now works with Windows Live Mail! We'll call Windows Live Mail WLM for convenience. If you are already familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Windows Mail, or Outlook Express, then you will be up and running with WLM in no time flat!
Setting It Up
In order to use WLM you first need to download the program. The easiest way to do that is right here Get it free. Just download the software to your computer, and then install it. The install routine is not that different from other software. Caution watch out for the checkboxes. During the install process, you will notice checkboxes to install software that you may not want such as the picture gallery and so on. You may want to uncheck any unnecessary software. Other than this cautionary note, the install is quick and easy.
Getting Started
When you start WLM for the first time, you may be prompted to enter your email account settings. However, if you already have an email account in Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, or Windows Mail, then you should see your email messages automatically. This is because WLM will automatically import your account and email settings from the above-mentioned programs.
Using WLM
If you are not setting up WLM from a previously configured email program, you may need to set WLM to display messages in a single list, and/or disable the preview pain. Below are a few handy keyboard commands that you will probably use frequently especially if you are using speech to access your computer.
- Control+N creates a new email.
- Control+R replies to a message.
- Control+F forwards a message.
- Delete will delete a message.
- Control+I will move you back into the inbox folder.
So what is so cool About WLM?
You have probably heard about Windows Live Mail. You wonder what is great about it. Below are a few highlights.
- Create photo e-mails for you and your friends to enjoy. Pick your photos and arrange them how you want in a photo e-mail (A Windows Live Mail e-mail message containing multiple photos in a photo layout.) . Add captions, borders, effects, background colors, and even autocorrect them before sending them for your friends to enjoy. Alternatively, if you have a Windows Live ID you can upload your photos to a Windows Live server and link to them via thumbnail versions in the e-mail message, so that your friends can see your photos without having to download a huge e-mail message.
- Use RSS feeds to view online content quickly and easily. Windows Live Mail supports RSS feeds, so you can view headlines, blogs (Short for weblog. An online journal or newsletter that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the website.) , and other online content just as easily as you view your e-mail messages.
- Post blog entries to your Windows Live space with a single click. You can access your space directly from the message window and automatically create a blog entry based on the contents of the message. If you are a Windows Live Writer user, Windows Live Mail automatically opens Writer so that you can edit the blog entry before you post it.
- Carry out automatic web searches based on the contents of your e-mail. Bridge the gap between your Inbox and the Web. Active Search automatically generates search results and sponsored links based on keywords drawn from the message that you are reading.
Note, Some of the features above can only be used if you sign in to Windows Live Mail with a Windows Live ID. However, you can still add accounts and send and receive e-mail normally without signing in. For more information, see WLM's help about signing in to Windows Live Mail.
